August 31st, 2017: The Vietnam Embassy in Ottawa hosted a reception to observe the 72 years of Vietnam’s National Day. The event witnessed the participation of over 200 delegates, including those from the Canadian Foreign Ministry, Canadian government agencies, businesses, scholars, the heads of foreign diplomatic missions, officials and staffs of the Embassy, and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Canada.
Delivering his remarks, the Vietnamese Ambassador to Canada Nguyen Duc Hoa stressed the historical importance of the Proclamation of Independence that President Ho Chi Minh announced on September 02nd, 1945, in which Vietnam was highlighted as an “independent country”. The Ambassador recalled Vietnam’s major development milestones during the past 72 years, especially the achievements attained in the process of Doi Moi (Renewal). He affirmed that Vietnam always strives to contribute to world peace, abides by international laws and will continue working with all other countries in combating common global challenges, for peace and stability in the world.
In regards to the Vietnam-Canada relations, the Ambassador stated that since the establishment of bilateral diplomatic ties in 1973, the two countries have constantly accelerated their bilateral cooperation activities across various spheres. Expressing his wish for an even closer relationship between Vietnam and Canada, he revealed Vietnam, as host of APEC in 2017, had invited Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to come and visit Vietnam. The two sides were working hard to prepare and make sure the trip would be successful and become a new milestone in bilateral relations between Vietnam and Canada.
On this occasion, the Embassy held an exhibition with tourist publications, embroidery paintings and officially launched a photo contest, entitled “Vietnam in my eyes”, for all Canadians who have visited Vietnam and taken photos of the country.
Canadian guests and friends congratulated Vietnamese people for achievements and wished Vietnam further successes in economic renovation and development. The reception’s atmosphere was welcoming and full of friendship. Vietnamese traditional cuisine raised a sense of nostalgia and a love for Vietnamese people and country.
