September 04th, 2019: The Viet Nam Embassy in Canada held a ceremony to celebrate the 74th National Day of Viet Nam.
The event was attended by Canadian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Marta Morgan, Deputy Minister of International Trade John Hannaford, Senator Peter Boehm, representatives of various ministries of Canada, former Canadian Ambassadors to Viet Nam, Canadian friends; diplomatic corps, businesses from both sides, representatives of the Vietnamese community in Canada, and officials and staff of the Embassy.
In the solemn atmosphere of the ceremony, the Ambassador of Viet Nam to Canada Nguyen Duc Hoa reviewed the important milestones of the bilateral relations between the two countries during the last few years. The Ambassador stressed the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) had laid the ground for further bilateral cooperation in many areas, ranging from politics, economics, culture, education, student exchange, tourism, science and technology, defence, and people-to-people ties. In 2020, as the Chair of ASEAN and a non-permanent Membership of the United Nations Security Council, Viet Nam looks forward to working closely with Canada, ASEAN members and dialogue partners to maintain peace, stability and prosperity in Asia-Pacific and in the world; and continue to strengthen the Comprehensive Partnership with Canada for mutual benefits of people of the two countries.

On behalf of the Government and people of Canada, Deputy Minister Marta Morgan congratulated the Government and people of Viet Nam, highlighting Viet Nam as a priority for the government of Canada in expanding and diversifying trade with fast-growing markets, and one of Canada’s closest and most important defence partners in Southeast Asia. As underlined in the Canada – Viet Nam Comprehensive Partnership, there are various areas in which the two countries can further cooperate, which include trade and investment, defence and security, multilateral cooperation, and people-to-people ties. Deputy Minister Marta Morgan revealed that a new Canadian Defence Policy commits Canada to being a strong and reliable partners with ASEAN, and Canada will further advancing regional security though ASEAN-centered institutions. This is demonstrated by Canada’s increased participation at the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF).
