GENERAL RULES 

  • All Vietnam visa requests must be done through the Embassy of Vietnam, the only authority that can issue VALID VIETNAMESE VISAS. All travellers to Vietnam, for all purposes (tourism, business, study, visiting relatives, volunteering...) need to obtain a valid visa issued by the Embassy before travelling. However, there will be no visa requirement if you are just transiting through a Vietnamese international airport.
  • Please pay attention to our warning on the so-called "visa-on-arrival".
     
  • Vietnamese VISA can be applied for by email, by mail or in person at the Embassy of Vietnam in Canada (55 Mackay street, Ottawa, Ontario, K1M2B2) up to 1 year prior to the date of entry into Vietnam.
     
  • The normal processing time (STANDARD) is five (05) business days since the receipt of a complete application. Travellers can also request for PREMIUM service to shorten the processing time to 2 business days after the receipt of complete application (additional processing fee required).
     
  • All application forms must be completed and PRINTED in black and white with a good quality printer.
     
  • The applicant can apply for:
  • Visa fees are various and depend on the length of stay, on the visa types and are subject to change from time to time. Please kindly contact the visa officer to be advised on current visa fees. Please note that the visa application fee covers all the entry fees and is non refundable.
  • Note to US passport holders: From August 29, 2016, according to an agreement between Vietnam and US governments, US passport holders can apply for a visa up to 1 year validity with multiple entry. The applicable fees will be charged accordingly. Please contact our visa officers if you need further information.
  • In accordance with the Vietnamese immigration law, the applicable processing time and service fees may be different to passport holders of certain countries (applicants from these countries are kindly invited to contact with the Embassy for further information).

 


 

HOW TO APPLY FOR A VISA

You can apply for a Vietnamese visa by one of the following 3 methods: By Email, On Site or by Regular Mail

You may ask friends, relatives or representatives to apply on your behalf (no Power of Attorney required). 

1. APPLY BY EMAIL: 

You will need to scan and send your visa application consisting of the followings through email to:

visa@vietnamembassy.ca

  1. Valid passport (picture page only): 

Your passport must have:

  • at least 06 month validity upon the date of arrival to meet airlines’ requirements; 

  • at least one (01) blank page left;

Please note that if you apply by email, you do not need to send the original passport to the Embassy, just the scanned copy.

Refugee Travel Document holders can not apply for a visa to Vietnam (click HERE for the sample). 

*Refugee travel documents (United Nations Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees, 1951 and its Protocol of 1967) are issued to people in Canada with protected-person status, including Convention refugees and persons in need of protection.  

  1. Visa application form:

    Alternatively, you may fill out the form online (the online form is only compatible with Windows computers). If you need assistance, click here for guidelines on how to fill in the form.

  2. One (1) colour picture taken within twelve (12) months of the date of applying (Canadian passport photograph size), scanned and attached to the email sent to the Embassy.

  3. Payment for Visa application fee:

  • Payment must be paid in US funds by credit card.
  • Please fill in this credit card charge form and email to the Embassy.
  • A 3% credit card transation fee of the total amount will be automatically charged.

From August 29, 2016, according to an agreement between Vietnam and US governments, US passport holders can apply for a visa up to 1 year validity with multiple entry. The applicable fees will be charged accordingly. Please contact our visa officers if you need further information.

  1. Your mailing address in Canada (with postal code and unit number if any): Once approved, your visa will be returned to you by mail. Please provide full name of the recipient, a detailed mailing address (with postal code) and a telephone/cellphone number.

  • The documents will be shipped by Fedex service (next day delivery, fee: USD 35.00/package) or Canada post service (2-3 business days, USD 25.00/package).

  • Additional charge may be applied for remote areas shipping. 

  • Applicants applying together in the same email may request all visas to be returned in the same package.

  • If choice of mailing service not specified, the visas will be returned by Fedex.

Due to occasional Canada Post's delayed delivery, Fedex is recommended for urgent document shipping. 

When the Embassy receives and processes your visa request through email, the Embassy will confirm receipt of your document with a reference number. If you do not receive this confirmation email within 3 business days after sending your application, please kindly contact our visa officer by telephone or email to verify.

You may use the reference number to check the status of your application online, or to track the shipment of your visa, at:

www.vietnamvisastatus.com

Once approved, your actual visa will be sent back to you by Fedex or Canada post service. You should keep it carefully in your passport while travelling to Vietnam. Below is a sample of the visa you would receive:

 

2. APPLY ON SITE:

You are kindly invited to go directly to the Embassy's office at 55 Mackay str., Ottawa, Ontario, K1M2B2 to submit your visa application which comprises of:  

  1. Original valid passport

Your passport must have:

  • which requires at least 06 month validity upon the date of arrival to meet airlines’ requirements;   

  • at least one (01) blank page left;

Refugee Travel Document holders can not apply for a visa to Vietnam (click HERE for the sample).

3. APPLY BY REGULAR MAIL:

You can mail or courrier to the Embassy your visa application which comprises of:

  1. Original passport:

Your passport must have:

  • which requires at least 06 month validity upon the date of arrival to meet airlines’ requirements;  

  • at least one (01) blank page left;

  • Refugee Travel Document holders can not apply for a visa to Vietnam (click HERE for the sample).

DIPLOMATIC AND OFFICIAL VISAS:

In addition to the required documents as described in the previous section, diplomatic and official visas will be granted when applicant submits an official letter/note from the relevant authorities of the Canadian government, foreign diplomatic missions accredited to Canada. Normal processing time for diplomatic and official visas request is about 10-15 working days.

 


BUSINESS/WORKING/VOLUNTEERING/STUDY/PRESS ... VISAS: 

In addition to the required documents in "HOW TO APPLY FOR A VISA", Business/Working/Study/press... visa request must include a invitation letter provided by your Vietnamese enterprise/company/business counterpart (with full address and detailed contact number).

In case you apply for more than 3 months or you request expedited service, a visa approval issued by the Immigration department of Vietnam must be submitted together with your visa application.

Normal processing time for Business/Working/Study/Press visa request is about 10-15 working days or depending on the sole decision of Immigration of Vietnam without further notice.

 



LANDING VISA:

In case of emergency and if you go to Vietnam by air, you can apply online for a landing visa. You will be granted a pre-approval letter of the Embassy which is valid for boarding and for picking up the visa at all the international airports in Vietnam. Canadians are not eligible to apply for e-visa. Please pay attention to our warning on the so-called "visa-on-arrival".

The following options are available:

  • Landing visa 1: Get your landing visa approvalsby email; go to Vietnam by air, pay the visa stamping fee by yourself and get the visa stamped onto your passport at the airport.
  • Landing visa 2: Get your landing visa approvals by email; go to Vietnam by air and get the visa with the assistance of our representative upon arrival (no extra fee to be paid at the airport)
  • Landing visa VIP: Get a pre-approval letter by email, go to Vietnam by air, get the visa upon arrival and fast check-in through VIP gate (no extra fee to be paid at the airport).

Note:  Any change of itinerary must be informed immediately to hotline +1 343 777 8384, otherwise the Embassy will NOT be responsible for any inconvenience. 

When you arrive in Vietnam, you will be met by an officer from the Vietnam Border Services Agency. You will need to show to the officer:

  • your visa approvals received from the Embassy of Vietnam in Canada;
  • your passport or other valid travel documents;
  • 1 colour picture of passport size taken within 12 months of the date of travel;

If you meet all the necessary conditions, the officer will issue the visa to you. The Vietnam Border Services Agency officers reserve the right to decide whether you will receive a visa or not, based on Vietnamese immigration law.

Countries whose citizens require additional visa procedures

Due to some restrictions of Vietnamese immigration law, the processing time and service fees mentioned above will not be applicable for the following countries' passport holders (applicants from these countries are kindly invited to contact with the Embassy for further information). TECHNICAL GUIDELINES

1. Filling out the Online Application form

Please follow these guidelines when filling the online form:  

  1. To fill out this form you should have Adobe Acrobat Reader ready, you may download the software here (link will open to an outside site, we have no responsibility for this).
  2. First click here for the online form
  3. Choose ENGLISH for language (top right corner);
  4. Select place of visa submission and place of visa collection: VIET NAM EMBASSY  IN CANADA (even for those who apply for visa by mail or email);
  5. Fields with (*) are compulsory.
  6. Online form must be completed within 15 minutes before the session is expired.
  7. Filling in the fields:
  • Purpose of entry (second line): type Tourism or other purposes if the fields does not fill in itself
  • Place of visa submission: scroll down for Viet Nam Embassy in Canada
  • Place of visa collection: scroll down for Viet Nam Embassy in Canada
  • Proposed address in Vietnam:  if you will be staying i several places, name the first place you will be staying. If you are still ensure, say "not yet known"
  • Sponsor information:  if you travel without a sponsor, you can skip this section
  1. After filling all information, please wait for a few seconds, you will see the completed application form as well as the ID and application code in the left bottom of the page.
  2. Please hit on Download button in the bottom of the page (click HERE for the sample). The system will automatically generate a PDF application form.
  3. Please save that PDF form to your computer and keep the ID and application code for your records.
  4. For your convenience, try NOT to use any mobile devices or Apple computers (smartphones, tablets, iMac, Macbook...) to fill out the online form. 

2. Photograph specifications

  1. The photographs should be taken in a professional place (Shopper Drug Mart, Walmart, Costco...).
  2. The photographs must be in COLOR.
  3. The frame size must be at least 40 mm x 60 mm (1 3/8″ x 1 3/4″) (Canadian passport size is recommended).
  4. The photographs must show the full front view of the head, with the face in the middle of the photograph, and include the top of the shoulders.
  5. The background should be white or light color.
  6. Try NOT to take the photographs yourself. Your applications or your entries to Vietnam may be denied by the Immigration.
