Vietnamese passport application

1. YOU MUST KNOW BEFORE APPLYING FOR A VIETNAMESE PASSPORT:

1.1. You can apply for a Vietnamese passport only if you are a Vietnamese citizen.

1.2. You present at the Embassy to apply for a new Vietnamese passport. Applicants living too far from Embassy can submit applications by courier services upon agreed by the Embassy; in that case, the Embassy is not responsible for any loss of documents that may occur during the transportation.

1.3. You should fill out the application form in Vietnamese yourself (Parents can fill out the form on behalf of children).

1.4. You have to sign and keep your passport carefully because it’s a national property.

1.5. You can submit the application at the Embassy or send it by mail to the Embassy. When applying by mail, mailing address and telephone number are required for the documents to be shipped back by FedEx.

1.6. Passports are valid for 10 years (5 years if the passport holder is under 14).

1.7. Processing time:

– For passport renewal and new passport application for children: 5-7 business days upon the receipt of the complete dossiers.

– For lost/damaged passport application: (i) 5 – 7 business days upon the receipt of the complete dossiers (if original Vietnamese ID provided); (ii) at least 30 business days (if original Vietnamese ID not provided)

– For new passport applications for adults: at least 90 business days upon the receipt of the complete dossiers. Please note that the processing time varies and may take up to years.

2. NEW PASSPORT APPLICATION (Applicants do not have a valid Vietnamese passport – Applications may be rejected if the information provided is insufficient or incorrect):

  • Application form (in Vietnamese – Please refer to the below instructions)
  • Citizenship identification form (Children born in Canada are exempted, but need to apply for Vietnamese birth certificate first)
  • Original Vietnamese birth certificate (or a notarized and authenticated copy) plus a photocopy of pages 2 and 3 of the passport
  • Legal document proving the applicant is being in Canada at the time of submitting passport application.
  • Any legal paper issued by Vietnamese authorities (birth certificate, expired passport, ID card…)
  • 02 new passport-sized photos

3. PASSPORT RENEWAL APPLICATION (Applicants have a valid Vietnamese passport):

3.1. Application form (in Vietnamese – Please refer to the below instructions)

3.2. An original Vietnamese passport (to-be-expired within 6 months)

3.3. 02 new passport-sized photos

3.4. Legal document proving the applicant is being in Canada at the time of submitting passport application.

3.5. A notarized copy of the Vietnamese birth certificate (if the Vietnamese passport is expired)

4. LOST/DAMAGED PASSPORT APPLICATION:

  • Application form (in Vietnamese – Please refer to the below instructions)
  • Original passport (in case of damage)
  • Vietnamese documents (birth certificate, ID card or passport or notarized and authenticated copy of the document)
  • Police report
  • Embassy Report (in Vietnamese)
  • Legal document proving the applicant is being in Canada at the time of submitting passport application.
  • 02 new passport sized photos

*INSTRUCTIONS FOR FILLING IN THE APPLICATION FORM FOR PASSPORT RENEWAL:

  • Number 1: FULL NAME (ORIGINAL VIETNAMESE NAME)
  • Number 2: GENDER
  • Number 3: DATE OF BIRTH
  • Number 4: PLACE OF BIRTH
  • Number 5: VIETNAMESE ID CARD INFORMATION (IF ANY)
  • Number 6, 7: ADDRESS IN THE CANADA, PHONE AND EMAIL
  • Number 8: ADDRESS IN VIETNAM BEFORE THE CHILD LEAVE FOR CANADA
  • Number 9: N/A.
  • Number 10: FATHER’S NAME, MOTHER’S NAME (ADOPTIVE PARENTS)
  • Number 11: LATEST VIETNAMESE PASSPORT NUMBER, ISSUED ON…BY….
  • Number 12: REQUEST TO RENEW EXPIRED OR EXPIRING PASSPORT
  • Number 13: N/A.
  • Number 14: DOCUMENTS SUBMITTED.

**Parents can sign the form on behalf of their child. It is not requested to fill in the remaining of the form. In case you want to have your child’s new Canadian name in the new passport, we can print the new name on page 6 or 7 of the new Vietnamese passport. You need to provide a copy of the certificate of name change (or any paper showing that the Vietnamese name and the Canadian one belong to the same person).

5. FEES:

All the fees can be paid by bank draft, money order or credit card (Visa or Master card only).

  • The walk-in hours of the Consular services:
  • Monday: 01.30 – 04.30 pm
  • Wednesday and Friday: 09.30 am – 12.30 pm;  01.45 – 04.30pm.

If you request to have the documents returned by mail, please provide full name of the recipient, a detailed mailing address (with postal code) and a telephone/cellphone number. The documents will be shipped by Fedex service or Canada post service.
